Sultan's Delight
This traditional South African dessert is a unique coconut flan. During baking, the mixture naturally separates to form three delightful textures: a light base, a smooth and creamy custard middle, and a wonderfully chewy coconut top. It requires minimal preparation and can be enjoyed either warm from the oven or nicely chilled. Perfect for serving 6 to 8 people.
Ingredients
- 500 ml milk
- 200 ml sugar
- 250 ml coconut
- 125 ml flour
- 60 ml butter
- 4 eggs
- 5 ml vanilla extract
- 2 ml baking powder
- 1 pinch salt
Method
- Combine all of the listed ingredients in a bowl until thoroughly mixed.
- Transfer the combined mixture into a glass pie dish.
- Place the dish in an oven preheated to 350F and bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the flan from the oven once it has turned a golden brown colour.
- This dessert can be served either while still warm or after it has been cooled.
