Spicy Chicken and Vegetable Soup (Chorba)
This slow cooker Chorba is a flavourful and hearty soup featuring chicken breast, chickpeas, and a mix of vegetables including carrots, celery, and zucchini. It is gently spiced with turmeric and cinnamon, and gets a kick from fresh jalapeno. The long, slow cooking process allows all the flavours to meld together beautifully, resulting in a comforting and satisfying dish perfect for a family meal.
Ingredients
- 1 large onion, chopped
- 2 carrots, peeled and chopped
- 2 stalks celery, chopped
- 1 medium zucchini, chopped
- 1 jalapeno, seeded and finely chopped
- 1 (16 ounce) can chickpeas, drained
- 1 teaspoon ground turmeric
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 4 cups chicken broth or 4 cups vegetable broth
- 4 cups water
- 1 lb chicken breast, boneless, skinless
- 1 teaspoon salt

Method
- Place the chopped onion, carrots, celery, zucchini, jalapeno, drained chickpeas, turmeric, cinnamon, chicken broth, water, salt and pepper into your slow cooker.
- Stir everything together, then cover and cook on low for 4 hours or until the vegetables have softened.
- Once the vegetables are tender, add the whole chicken breasts to the slow cooker and continue to cook for 30 more minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.
- Take the cooked chicken out of the soup and cut it into bite sized pieces.
- Place the chopped chicken back into the slow cooker with the soup.
