You can have this classic bar cookie, optionally studded with nuts, ready to enjoy in about 40 minutes total.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup butter
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 3 tablespoons nestle's tollhouse cocoa powder
- 3/4 cup flour
- 2 eggs
- 1 -2 teaspoon vanilla
- 1/2 cup chopped nuts (optional)
- 4 tablespoons butter
- 4 tablespoons cocoa
- 2 tablespoons half-and-half
- 1 1/3 cups powdered sugar
Method
- Melt the 1/2 cup of butter. Combine the sugar and 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder with it. Mix in the flour. Add the eggs and vanilla, then stir everything together. Fold in the chopped nuts if you are using them.
- Grease an 8 x 8 inch glass baking dish. Transfer the batter into the prepared pan. Bake at 350 for about 25 minutes. The brownies are done when a knife inserted into the middle comes out clean.
- Allow the brownies to cool until they are warm to the touch, which should take roughly 15 minutes. They should not be hot.
- To prepare the frosting, begin by melting 4 tablespoons of butter.
- Stir 4 tablespoons of cocoa powder into the melted butter until smooth.
- Add 1 1/3 cups of powdered sugar and 2 tablespoons of half-and-half to the cocoa mixture. Stir everything together thoroughly.
- Adjust the frosting components to your personal preference, altering the sweetness and consistency until it spreads easily.
- Spread the finished frosting over the top of the warm brownies.
