  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 3/4 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/2 cups packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 3/4 cups old fashioned oats
  • 1 cup raisins
  • 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Method

  1. Combine the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg, and ground cloves in a small bowl, then set this mixture aside.
  2. Using a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and packed brown sugar.
  3. Add the eggs and vanilla extract to the butter mixture and beat until incorporated.
  4. With the mixer on a low speed, gradually incorporate the reserved flour mixture and the old fashioned oats, adding them alternately.
  5. Gently fold in the raisins and semi-sweet chocolate chips by hand until evenly distributed.
  6. Transfer the batter to a greased 13x9-inch baking pan and spread it out evenly.
  7. Bake at 350° for 25-30 minutes, until the bars are almost firm but retain a slight softness in the centre.
  8. Allow the baked slab to cool completely before cutting it into individual bars.
