Bare Pantry Chocolate Chip Cookie Bars
These chocolate chip cookie bars are wonderfully straightforward, requiring minimal ingredients. The dough comes together easily without eggs, making it safe to sample. Ingredients
- 1 cup baking butter, softened
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon vanilla
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 cups flour
- 1 (12 ounce) package semi-sweet chocolate chips (1.5 cups for dough, 1/2 cup for topping)
Method
- Set your oven to heat to 375°.
- Combine the softened butter with the sugar, vanilla and salt, beating them together.
- Mix in the flour gradually, continuing to beat the mixture.
- Fold 1 1/2 cups of the chocolate chips into the dough.
- Transfer the dough to an ungreased 9 x 13 pan, pressing it down evenly.
- Place the pan in the oven at 375° for 20-22 minutes, baking until the edges turn golden.
- Allow the baked slab to cool in its pan until it is just slightly warm.
- To prepare the topping:
- Place the remaining 1/2 cup of chocolate chips in a sealable plastic bag and microwave on HIGH for 1 minute, monitoring it closely.
- Gently knead the sealed bag until the chocolate inside is fully melted and smooth.
- Snip a small corner from the bag and drizzle the melted chocolate over the top of the cooled bars.
