Thai Beef Salad - Yam Nuea
This Thai beef salad, known as Yam Nuea, features grilled flank steak served over crisp lettuce. Ingredients
- 1 lb flank steak
- 1/4 cup fresh lime juice
- 2 tablespoons fish sauce (A Taste of Thai Fish Sauce is in the Asian food aisle at the supermarket)
- 2 tablespoons minced red chili peppers
- 3 cloves garlic, crushed
- 1 small red onion, sliced thinly
- 1 small cucumber, thinly sliced
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh cilantro
- 3 scallions, chopped (green onions)
- 1 head lettuce, torn into bite sized pieces (or greens of your choice)
Method
- Cook the flank steak by grilling or broiling it.
- Cut the cooked steak into thin, bite sized pieces.
- Place the sliced steak in the refrigerator to chill.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the fresh lime juice, fish sauce, minced red chili peppers, and crushed garlic.
- To the dressing, add the thinly sliced red onion, cucumber, chopped fresh cilantro, chopped scallions, and the chilled steak pieces.
- Toss all the ingredients thoroughly and serve the salad over torn lettuce leaves.
