Spicy Chili Beer Bread
This robust and flavourful loaf is excellent served fresh or toasted, and pairs wonderfully with stew. The recipe utilises a bread maker for convenience to prepare the dough, which is flavoured with beer, chilli powder, cayenne pepper, cumin and onion. After shaping and proving, it bakes to perfection. The total preparation time is approximately 210 minutes, which includes proving. It yields one large loaf, suitable for four to six servings.
Ingredients
- 3/4 cup beer
- 1 beef bouillon cube
- 2 tablespoons water
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne
- 1/4 teaspoon hot pepper oil
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 1/4 cups flour
- 1/8 teaspoon cumin
- 1/3 cup diced onion
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons yeast
Method
- Add all the listed ingredients to your bread maker, following the order recommended by its manufacturer.
- Choose the dough setting on the machine to begin the mixing and kneading cycle.
- Once the cycle finishes, remove the dough and form it into a ball by tucking the edges underneath to create a smooth, taut surface.
- Score the top of the loaf, then cover it with oiled cling film or a damp tea towel. Allow it to prove until it has roughly doubled in volume.
- Transfer the loaf to an oven preheated to 355 and bake for 30 minutes.
