Scalloped Oysters
This traditional scalloped oyster bake features layers of fresh oysters and seasoned cracker crumbs, all bound together with a rich custard made from half-and-half and eggs. Ingredients
- 3 cups cracker crumbs
- 2 (12 ounce) containers fresh standard oysters, drained

- 1/2 cup butter
- 1 1/2 cups half-and-half
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1/8 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
Method
- Place half a cup of the cracker crumbs into a baking dish that has been lightly greased and measures 8 inches square.
- Arrange half of the drained oysters over the crumbs, then season them with salt and pepper.
- Distribute half of the butter in small pieces across the oysters, then top with half of the cracker crumbs that are left.
- Create another identical layer using the rest of the oysters, more salt and pepper, the remaining butter, and the final portion of cracker crumbs.
- Take a bowl and mix the half-and-half with the beaten eggs and Worcestershire sauce, ensuring they are thoroughly combined.
- Pour this mixture around the layered oysters and bake in an oven preheated to 350° for 40 minutes, until the top is lightly browned and the dish is bubbly.
