Ingredients

  • 3 cups cracker crumbs
  • 2 (12 ounce) containers fresh standard oysters, drained

  • 1/2 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups half-and-half
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1/8 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Method

  1. Place half a cup of the cracker crumbs into a baking dish that has been lightly greased and measures 8 inches square.
  2. Arrange half of the drained oysters over the crumbs, then season them with salt and pepper.
  3. Distribute half of the butter in small pieces across the oysters, then top with half of the cracker crumbs that are left.
  4. Create another identical layer using the rest of the oysters, more salt and pepper, the remaining butter, and the final portion of cracker crumbs.
  5. Take a bowl and mix the half-and-half with the beaten eggs and Worcestershire sauce, ensuring they are thoroughly combined.
  6. Pour this mixture around the layered oysters and bake in an oven preheated to 350° for 40 minutes, until the top is lightly browned and the dish is bubbly.
