After a brief rest to let the flavours meld, they become an irresistible snack with a satisfying crunch. They make a wonderful homemade gift as they store so well.

Arkansas Hot Pepper Pecans

Ingredients

  • 1 cup pecans
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt (optional)
  • 6 dashes Tabasco sauce

Method

  1. Arrange the pecans in a single layer in a casserole dish or on a baking tray and pour the melted butter over them.
  2. Place in an oven preheated to 300 degrees and bake for 25-30 minutes until they take on a light golden colour.
  3. Combine the soy sauce, optional salt, and Tabasco in a bowl, then pour this mixture over the warm toasted pecans and stir thoroughly to coat.
  4. Allow the coated pecans to sit for a minimum of 30 minutes, then transfer them to paper towels to drain any excess liquid.
  5. Store the finished pecans in an airtight container where they will remain fresh for several months.
