3 Layer Strawberry Jello With Pretzels
This popular dessert features three distinct layers. It begins with a baked crust made from crushed pretzels, butter and sugar. A creamy middle layer combines soft cream cheese with sugar and whipped topping. The final tier is a strawberry jelly, prepared with a packet of gelatin and thawed frozen berries. The dessert requires chilling to set fully before serving. It is an ideal sweet treat for gatherings, especially those involving children.
Ingredients
- 2 cups pretzels, crushed
- 1/2 cup butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 8 ounces Cool Whip
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 (6 ounce) box strawberry Jell-O gelatin dessert
- 1 (10 ounce) package frozen strawberries, thawed
Method
- Heat your oven to 400 degrees.
- For the base, combine the crushed pretzels, melted butter and 2 tablespoons of sugar. Press this mixture into a 9 x 13 dish and bake it for 8 minutes. Allow it to cool completely.
- To make the middle layer, blend the softened cream cheese with 1/2 cup of sugar. Gently fold the whipped topping into this mixture. Spread it over the cooled pretzel base and place the dish in the refrigerator.
- Prepare the strawberry jelly according to the packet instructions. Stir the thawed strawberries into the liquid jelly. Let it chill until it begins to thicken slightly. it should not be watery. Take the dish from the fridge and pour the jelly and strawberry mixture over the creamy layer. Return it to the refrigerator to set completely, which will take 1-2 hours.
- Slice and serve, optionally with extra whipped cream.
