11 Layer Salad

⏱ 60 mins 🍽 10-12 serving(s) 🏷 Potluck

This impressive layered salad is ideal for a potluck gathering. It features crisp lettuce, bacon, hard-boiled eggs, cheese and fresh vegetables in distinct strata. A creamy dressing made from mayonnaise, sour cream and seasonings is spread over the top. The salad needs to chill for several hours before being tossed and served to a group of 10-12.

11 Layer Salad

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 heads iceberg lettuce (or any kind of lettuce you prefer)
  • 1/2 cup chopped celery
  • 1/3 cup chopped green onion
  • 1 cup frozen green peas or 1 cup frozen peas and corn, thawed
  • 1 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 3 chopped tomatoes
  • 10 -12 slices bacon, well cooked
  • 3 hard-boiled eggs, chopped
  • 1 cup grated cheese, your preference (I used a combination of Jack and Cheddar)
  • olives or garbanzo beans
  • 3 cups mayonnaise
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2-1 teaspoon seasoning salt
  • 1/4-1/2 garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

Method

  1. Take one head of lettuce, chop it, and arrange it in a large salad bowl.
  2. Prepare the remaining vegetables and the hard-boiled eggs by chopping them, then layer them over the lettuce.
  3. Add a layer using half of the cooked bacon and half of the grated cheese.
  4. Chop the remaining half head of lettuce and place it over the existing layers.
  5. Combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, lemon juice, seasoning salt, garlic powder and brown sugar to make the dressing, then spread it over the salad.
  6. Scatter the rest of the bacon and cheese over the top.
  7. Cover the bowl and refrigerate the salad for several hours.
  8. Toss the salad thoroughly just prior to serving to combine all the ingredients with the dressing.
