Spicy Creole Shrimp
This vibrant Creole shrimp dish is packed with flavour from a blend of spices. It can be enjoyed as a tasty appetiser or served over angel hair pasta for a satisfying main course. The prawns are coated in a seasoned mix before being cooked in a skillet with a rich, tangy sauce of butter, Worcestershire sauce, lemon juice and garlic. The whole process takes only 25 minutes from start to finish.
Ingredients
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 pinch cayenne pepper
- 1 pinch thyme
- 28 uncooked large shrimp
- 7 tablespoons chilled butter, cut into 1/2 inch pieces
- 3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
- 3 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 2 teaspoons chopped garlic
Method
- Place the first eight ingredients into a large mixing bowl and stir them together.
- Introduce the uncooked shrimp to the bowl and toss them until they are evenly coated with the spice mixture.
- Begin by melting 3 tablespoons of the chilled butter in a large skillet.
- Once the butter has melted, add the Worcestershire sauce, fresh lemon juice and chopped garlic to the pan.
- Cook these ingredients together for approximately 2 minutes, stirring frequently.
- Add the seasoned shrimp to the skillet and cook them, turning occasionally, until they turn opaque and are cooked through.
- Gradually add the rest of the butter pieces to the pan, stirring continuously until each piece has fully melted into the sauce.
- Use a slotted spoon to move the cooked shrimp onto a serving plate, then pour the remaining sauce from the skillet over the top.
