Spiced Walnuts
This recipe yields a modest quantity of flavourful spiced walnuts, ideal for incorporating into pumpkin or banana bread. You can easily scale it up for a party platter. Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 1 cup walnuts (whole or coarsely chopped depending on planed use)
- 1 tablespoon brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon boiled cider or 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 pinch cayenne pepper (optional)
Method
- Set a medium skillet on the hob to heat.
- Allow the butter to melt, then introduce the walnuts.
- Cook the nuts, giving them an occasional stir, until they just begin to take on colour. Watch them closely as this occurs fast.
- Scatter the sugar over the walnuts and mix. Pour in the boiled cider or maple syrup and stir once more to ensure the nuts are covered.
