Russian Style Pickled Herring
This recipe details the preparation of a classic Russian pickled herring, known as silodka. The process involves soaking whole herring fillets in cold water before cutting them into cubes. These are then marinated in a simple mixture of vinegar, water, sliced onions, bay leaf, sugar, and oil. After marinating for one to two days, the herring is drained and ready to serve. Ingredients
- 4 herring fillets
- 2 small onions, sliced
- 1 bay leaf

- 1/2-3/4 cup vinegar
- 1 cup cold water
Method
- Place the herring fillets in cold water to soak for 3 or 4 hours.
