Pull Apart Pizza Bread
This pull apart pizza bread is ideal party food that can be prepared in advance and frozen. Each piece you pull from the loaf is like a miniature pizza, featuring melted mozzarella, pepperoni and a garlic butter base. It reheats well without becoming soggy. The recipe uses a long baguette, sliced and layered with toppings before baking until golden and crisp. It serves 8 people and takes about 45 minutes to prepare and cook.
Ingredients
- 1/3 cup salted butter
- 1 garlic clove (, minced (or 2 if you like really garlicky))
- 1 baguette / french (, 60cm / 2 feet long (or multiple short ones))
- 1/3 cup pizza sauce
- 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups grated mozzarella cheese ((Notes 1 and 2))
- 4 oz / 120g pepperoni (, sliced or diced (I used mini pepperoni))
- 1/4 red onion (, finely diced (optional))
- 1/2 tbsp fresh parsley (, finely diced (optional))
Method
- Set your oven to heat to 180C/350F.
- Gently melt the butter, adding the minced garlic to it.
- Slice the baguette into pieces roughly 1.5 - 2 cm / 3/5" - 4/5" thick, which should yield about 25 slices, and arrange them on your counter.
- Using a brush, coat each slice with the garlic butter, making sure to include some garlic pieces, and reserve a little butter for later.
- Apply a small amount of pizza sauce to every bread slice, then add the onion if using, followed by the grated mozzarella and finally the pepperoni.
- Create a stack of 6 or 7 topped bread pieces. Carefully lift the stack by holding the top and bottom slices and position it inside a 22cm / 8" square baking dish.
- Use the leftover butter to brush over the top of the assembled bread.
- Cover the dish with foil and bake for 15 minutes, or until the cheese has largely melted. Take off the foil and bake for a further 10 minutes until the top is golden brown and crisp.
- Take the dish from the oven, scatter with fresh parsley if desired, and serve straight away.
