French-style Peas
This traditional preparation of French-style peas uses lettuce leaves to steam the peas gently, resulting in a tender and subtly flavoured vegetable side. The method is simple and quick, requiring only a few basic ingredients. It is an excellent accompaniment to a variety of main courses and is ready to serve in about 20 minutes.
Ingredients
- 3 -4 large outer lettuce leaves
- 1 (10 ounce) package frozen peas
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 tablespoon margarine
Method
- Arrange the large outer lettuce leaves to cover the base and inner sides of your pan, saving one leaf.
- Add the frozen peas, 1/4 teaspoon salt, and 1 tablespoon margarine into the pan, then place the saved lettuce leaf on top.
- Put the lid on the pan and allow the contents to simmer for 10-15 minutes.
- Take off the lettuce leaves before you dish up the peas.
