Five Spice Pecans
These savoury spiced pecans are prepared in a slow cooker for a hands-off method. Toasted pecan halves are coated in a blend of melted butter, soy sauce, and aromatic spices including five-spice powder, garlic powder, ginger, and a touch of cayenne. After cooking for 2 hours on LOW, the nuts are spread out to cool and crisp up. This recipe makes a generous quantity, ideal for gatherings or as a homemade gift.
Ingredients
- 1 lb pecan halves, toasted
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce
- 1 teaspoon five-spice powder
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Method
- Place the toasted pecan halves into a 4-quart slow cooker.
- Combine the melted butter, soy sauce, five-spice powder, garlic powder, ground ginger, and cayenne pepper in a small bowl, stirring well.
- Pour the butter and spice mixture over the pecans and stir until they are evenly coated.
- Put the lid on the slow cooker and cook on LOW for 2 hours, then give the nuts a stir.
- Lay out sheets of waxed paper on your work surface.
