They are served with a simple, sweet and tangy sauce made from pineapple, brown sugar, and ketchup. The entire process takes about 30 minutes to complete.

Won Tons

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 egg
  • 1/4 teaspoon Accent seasoning (optional)
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 2 packages wonton wrappers (skins)
  • water
  • salt
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 4 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup white vinegar
  • 4 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 (8 ounce) can crushed pineapple in juice

Method

  1. Combine the ground beef, egg, Accent seasoning if using, sliced green onions, soy sauce, 1/2 teaspoon salt, and pepper in a bowl.
  2. Spoon about 1 teaspoon of the beef mixture onto the centre of each wonton wrapper.
  3. Use water to moisten the edges of the wrapper.
  4. Fold the wrapper over the filling to create a triangle shape.
  5. Dampen one corner of the triangle's long side, then bring the two points on that long side together and press to seal.
  6. Continue filling and shaping all the remaining wonton wrappers.
  7. Deep fry the won tons in batches of 8-10 at 350 degrees farenheit for roughly 2-3 minutes, until they turn golden brown.
  8. Transfer the fried won tons to drain on paper towels.
  9. Lightly sprinkle the hot won tons with salt.
  10. Prepare the accompanying sauce for serving.
  11. To make the sauce, combine all the listed sauce ingredients in a saucepan and bring the mixture to a boil.
  12. Cook while stirring for about 2 minutes, until the sauce has thickened.
