Bacon Wrapped Water Chestnut Dim Sum

Ingredients

  • 16 fresh water chestnuts (can use canned)
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/3 cup brown sugar
  • 8 slices bacon, cut in half

Method

  1. Peel and wash the fresh water chestnuts. Should you opt for canned ones, ensure they are rinsed thoroughly and drained. Soak the chestnuts in the soy sauce for 2 1/2 hours.
  2. Heat your oven to 350 degrees F. Place the brown sugar in a dish, breaking apart any lumps. Take the chestnuts from the soy marinade and promptly coat them in the brown sugar. Encircle each chestnut with one half-slice of bacon, fastening it with a toothpick.
  3. Arrange the wrapped chestnuts on a rack set inside a shallow baking tray. Cook in the oven for 30 minutes, remembering to turn them over once during baking.
  4. Note: You can assemble these ahead and freeze them prior to baking. They will keep for 2 to 3 months when stored in a sealed freezer bag.
