Salt Dough
This recipe provides a straightforward method for creating a classic salt dough, perfect for crafting and modelling projects. The mixture of plain flour, salt, and water forms a pliable material that can be shaped and then baked to a hard finish. An optional addition of vegetable oil or wallpaper paste can improve the dough's texture and elasticity. Once kneaded and rested, the dough is ready to be rolled out and formed into your desired creations before a long, slow bake.
Ingredients
- 230 g plain flour
- 200 g salt
- 250 ml water
- 15 ml vegetable oil (optional)
Method
- For improved elasticity, you may optionally add 10 ml of wallpaper paste to the mixture.
- Combine all the ingredients and knead them thoroughly until the dough is smooth and firm. Continue kneading for a further 10 minutes.
- The dough can be used immediately, but it is better to let it rest for 30 minutes. Afterwards, roll it out to a 1 cm thickness and shape your creations.
- Bake your shaped dough at 120°C. The required baking time is typically 9-12 hours.
