Carrot and Swede Purée
This smooth carrot and swede purée is an ideal first food for your baby. It is simple to prepare by steaming the vegetables until tender, then blending them with a little of your baby's usual milk to achieve the perfect consistency. The recipe yields about 375g, perfect for serving one portion immediately and freezing the rest in handy portions for later use.
Ingredients
- 2 large carrots (about 200g), peeled and cut into chunks
- 1/4 swede (about 200g), peeled and cut into chunks
- baby's milk
Method
- Place the carrot and swede chunks into a steamer set over simmering water and cook them for about 20 mins until they are tender.
- Transfer the cooked vegetables to a food processor and blend to a purée, adding a splash of milk to help create a smooth texture. You might need to stop and scrape down the sides of the processor bowl a few times during blending.
- Offer one portion to your baby now, then spoon the remaining purée into small containers or ice cube trays ready to freeze.
