Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy

Ingredients

  • 1 (10 3/4 ounce) can condensed cream of mushroom soup, undiluted
  • 1 tablespoon prepared mustard (or less, for less of a mustard taste)
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon prepared horseradish
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/4 cup dry breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup onion, finely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper (dash)
  • 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
  • 1 -2 tablespoon canola oil
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped (optional)

Method

  1. Mix the undiluted cream of mushroom soup with the mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and horseradish in a small bowl, then set it aside.
  2. Lightly beat the egg in a separate bowl, then stir in the breadcrumbs, chopped onion, salt, pepper, and a quarter cup of the prepared soup mixture. Crumble the ground beef into the bowl and combine everything thoroughly before shaping the mixture into six patties.
  3. Heat the canola oil in a large skillet and brown the patties on both sides, then drain any excess fat.
  4. Stir the water into the remaining soup mixture and pour this sauce over the patties in the skillet.
  5. Cover the skillet and let the patties cook for 10-15 minutes, until the meat is fully cooked and no longer pink, reaching an internal temperature of 160°.
  6. If desired, sprinkle the finished dish with chopped fresh parsley before serving.
