Minnie's Chocolate Pie from the Help
This is the chocolate pie recipe made famous by the film The Help. It creates a single, rich pie with a filling of cocoa, sugar, butter and evaporated milk, all baked together in an uncooked pastry case. The pie needs time to set fully after baking and is recommended for serving at room temperature. It can be enjoyed on its own or with accompaniments like ice cream or fruit.
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups sugar
- 3 1/2 tablespoons cocoa
- 1/4 cup butter, melted
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 5 ounces Pet milk (evaporated)
- 2 eggs
- 1 pie crust, uncooked
Method
- Heat your oven to 325°F.
- Combine all the listed ingredients in a single large mixing bowl.
- There is no need to pre bake the pastry case, but do prick its base with a fork.
- Transfer the prepared filling into the uncooked pie crust.
- Place in the oven to bake for approximately 50 minutes. Once baked, allow the pie to cool and set completely. It is best enjoyed at room temperature.
- For serving, you can add a scoop of ice cream, some fresh fruit, a dollop of whipped cream, or simply eat it as it is.
