Melon & Ginger Sharbat
This Indian sharbat is a wonderfully refreshing blended drink. Sweet melon flesh is combined with fresh ginger and orange juice for a vibrant flavour with a gentle spice. A little sugar balances the taste, and a squeeze of lemon can be added for extra tartness. It is quickly blended until smooth and served chilled over plenty of ice for a perfect cooling beverage.
Ingredients
- 1.25 kg sweet aromatic melon flesh (cantaloupe, Galia or honeydew work well), chopped into large chunks
- thumb-sized piece ginger peeled and finely chopped
- juice 3 oranges
- 2 tsp sugar plus extra to taste
- squeeze of lemon juice (optional)
- lots of ice to serve
Method
- Place the melon chunks, chopped ginger, orange juice, and 2 tsp sugar into a blender.
- Blend the mixture until completely smooth, working in batches if your blender is small.
- Taste the blend and add a squeeze of lemon juice if you prefer a more tart flavour.
- You may also choose to season with a pinch of salt and pepper, and adjust the sugar level to your liking.
- Pour the sharbat into glasses filled with lots of ice to serve.
