Waldorf Salad
This traditional Waldorf salad combines crisp, unpeeled apples and chopped celery with walnuts. A simple dressing of mayonnaise and lemon juice brings everything together. The salad is best served well chilled. It's a refreshing and simple dish, ideal for gatherings. You can also customise it with additions like dried fruit or pineapple for a different twist.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 2 medium apples, unpeeled and coarsely chopped (about 2 cups)
- 2 stalks celery, chopped (about 1 cup)
- 1/2 cup coarsely chopped nuts (I use walnuts)
Method
- Combine the mayonnaise and lemon juice in a bowl.
- Add the chopped apples, celery and nuts to the bowl and stir them in.
- For a variation, you could include a handful of dried cherries or cranberries and choose pecans or walnuts.
- Another optional addition is to mix in some pineapple chunks.
- Toss all the ingredients together until coated, then refrigerate until thoroughly chilled before serving.
