This traditional Waldorf salad combines crisp, unpeeled apples and chopped celery with walnuts. A simple dressing of mayonnaise and lemon juice brings everything together. Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 medium apples, unpeeled and coarsely chopped (about 2 cups)
  • 2 stalks celery, chopped (about 1 cup)
  • 1/2 cup coarsely chopped nuts (I use walnuts)

Method

  1. Combine the mayonnaise and lemon juice in a bowl.
  2. Add the chopped apples, celery and nuts to the bowl and stir them in.
  3. For a variation, you could include a handful of dried cherries or cranberries and choose pecans or walnuts.
  4. Another optional addition is to mix in some pineapple chunks.
  5. Toss all the ingredients together until coated, then refrigerate until thoroughly chilled before serving.
