Turmeric Golden Milk
This warming beverage begins with preparing a concentrated turmeric paste, which is then blended with almond milk and aromatic spices. The paste is cooked until thick, cooled, and stored for future use. For serving, the paste is whisked into heated almond milk with coconut oil, ginger, and cinnamon, then finished with a touch of honey. The final drink is strained into mugs, ready for a relaxing sip. The entire process takes about 40 minutes and yields two servings.
Ingredients
- 0.5 cup water
- 0.25 cup ground turmeric
- 0.5 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 teaspoon water, or as needed
- 2 cups almond milk
- 1 teaspoon extra-virgin coconut oil
- 1 teaspoon ground ginger
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon raw honey
Method
- Prepare the turmeric paste by mixing 1/2 cup water, turmeric, and pepper in a small saucepan on low heat. Stir continuously until the mixture thickens, which should take 7 to 9 minutes. Add 1 teaspoon water and keep cooking until it forms a paste, another 7 to 9 minutes. Let it cool fully for 15 to 20 minutes. Keep the finished paste in a sealed glass jar in the fridge.
- For the turmeric milk, whisk together almond milk, 1 teaspoon of the prepared turmeric paste, coconut oil, ginger, and cinnamon in a saucepan. Heat on low until warm, approximately 5 minutes. Take it off the heat and mix in the honey. Finally, pour the milk mixture through a strainer into two mugs.
