Traditional Sage Dressing

Ingredients
- 1 cup melted butter, divided
- 3 cups chopped onions
- 3 cups minced celery ribs, and leaves
- 16 slices white bread, dried and broken into small pieces
- 1 cup minced fresh parsley
- 6 tablespoons minced fresh sage
- salt
- fresh ground black pepper
- 1 egg
- 2 cups chicken broth (about)
Method
- Soften the chopped onions and minced celery in 4 tablespoons of the melted butter, then set this mixture aside to cool.
- In a large bowl, combine the broken dried bread pieces with the minced fresh sage, parsley, salt, and fresh ground black pepper.
- Pour the cooled onion and celery mixture into the bowl with the bread, along with the rest of the melted butter.
- Beat the egg and incorporate it into the dressing mixture, tossing everything together until well combined.
- Gradually add the chicken broth while tossing the mixture, ensuring it is thoroughly moistened but not soupy.
- Transfer the dressing to a greased casserole dish and bake at 350-450*F. for 30-45 minutes until it turns a golden brown colour.
