Classic Jewish Noodle Kugel
This classic Jewish noodle kugel is a beloved comfort food, perfect as a side or dessert. Using just seven common ingredients, it creates a wonderfully fragrant and golden baked dish. Ingredients
- 1 (16 ounce) package egg noodles
- 0.5 cup margarine
- 1.5 cups applesauce
- 1 cup white sugar
- 4 eggs, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ground cinnamon, for dusting
Method
- Heat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
- Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a rolling boil. Add the egg noodles and cook for about 5 minutes until they are just tender. Drain the noodles thoroughly.
- Transfer the drained noodles to a large mixing bowl. Mix in the margarine until it has fully melted. Add the applesauce, sugar, beaten eggs, and vanilla extract, stirring to combine everything well. Pour this mixture into a 9x13-inch baking dish. Dust the top with ground cinnamon, then cover the dish tightly with aluminium foil.
- Place the covered dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 20 to 30 minutes until the top is a golden brown colour.
