Classic Jewish Noodle Kugel

Ingredients

  • 1 (16 ounce) package egg noodles
  • 0.5 cup margarine
  • 1.5 cups applesauce
  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 4 eggs, beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ground cinnamon, for dusting

Method

  1. Heat your oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Bring a large pot of lightly salted water to a rolling boil. Add the egg noodles and cook for about 5 minutes until they are just tender. Drain the noodles thoroughly.
  3. Transfer the drained noodles to a large mixing bowl. Mix in the margarine until it has fully melted. Add the applesauce, sugar, beaten eggs, and vanilla extract, stirring to combine everything well. Pour this mixture into a 9x13-inch baking dish. Dust the top with ground cinnamon, then cover the dish tightly with aluminium foil.
  4. Place the covered dish in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 20 to 30 minutes until the top is a golden brown colour.
