Sweet Sausage Rolls
These sweet sausage rolls make a fantastic party appetiser. Smoked cocktail sausages are wrapped in triangles of crescent roll dough, then arranged in a baking dish coated with a mixture of melted butter, chopped pecans, honey and brown sugar. They bake until the pastry is golden and puffed. The result is a delightful combination of flaky pastry, savoury sausage and a sticky, nutty glaze.
Ingredients
- 2 (8 ounce) cans crescent roll dough
- 48 cocktail smoked sausage links
- 1 cup butter (melted) or 1 cup margarine (melted)
- 1 cup chopped pecans
- 1/3 cup honey
- 1/3 cup brown sugar
Method
- Unwrap the crescent roll dough and separate it into the pre-cut triangles. Slice each triangle lengthwise to create three long, thin triangles.
- Take one cocktail sausage and position it at the wider end of a dough triangle. Roll the dough around the sausage tightly until fully enclosed.
- Continue wrapping each individual sausage in the same manner until all are used.
- In a 9x13 inch baking dish, mix together the melted butter, chopped pecans, honey and brown sugar.
- Place each prepared sausage roll into the dish, ensuring the seam where the dough meets is facing downwards and nestled into the butter mixture.
- Bake in an oven preheated to 400°F for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the pastry has turned a golden brown colour.
