Summer Steak Subs

Ingredients

  • 2 sub rolls or mini baguettes
  • 1 tbsp mayonnaise or horseradish sauce
  • 1 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1 small onion finely sliced
  • 1 red pepper deseeded and finely sliced
  • 2 thin frying steaks
  • 2 slices gruyère cheese

Method

  1. Cut the sub rolls open lengthways. Apply the mayonnaise or horseradish sauce inside them and put them to one side. Warm half of the vegetable oil in a large pan and cook the sliced onion and red pepper for 5-10 mins until tender and starting to brown, then transfer this mixture into the prepared rolls.
  2. Add the rest of the oil to the same pan. Season the frying steaks and cook them for 1 min until they brown. Turn the steaks over, place a slice of Gruyère cheese on each one, and carry on cooking until the steak is done to your preference and the cheese has melted. Place the cheesy steaks into the rolls and serve immediately.
