Spicy Cocktail Nuts

⏱ 55 mins 🍽 4 serving(s) 🏷 Snack

This recipe combines a few ideas to create a nut mix with a real kick. Ideal for social gatherings or a personal snack, it uses a blend of spices for heat. I prefer a deluxe nut selection without peanuts. Be sure to have a cool beverage nearby to enjoy these. The process involves coating the nuts in a seasoned egg white mixture before baking them to a perfect crunch.

Spicy Cocktail Nuts

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups mixed nuts
  • 1 egg white
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon basil
  • 1/8 teaspoon rosemary
  • 1/8 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne

Method

  1. Combine the egg white and water in a bowl, whisking until the mixture becomes foamy.
  2. Transfer the mixed nuts to a bowl and pour the foamy egg white mixture over them.
  3. Move the coated nuts into a strainer and allow them to drain for 3 minutes.
  4. Tip the drained nuts into a brown paper lunch bag.
  5. As the nuts drain, mix all the dried spices together in a separate small bowl.
  6. Pour the Worcestershire sauce over the nuts in the bag, then add the mixed spices.
  7. Seal the bag and shake it vigorously to coat the nuts evenly with the seasoning.
  8. Spread the coated nuts out in a single layer on a baking sheet.
  9. Bake the nuts for 15 minutes at 275, giving them a stir once during this time.
  10. Reduce the oven temperature to 225 and continue baking for 30 minutes more, stirring the nuts every 15 minutes.
  11. Allow the nuts to cool completely before serving.
  12. Keep any leftovers in an airtight container.
