It's a quick and satisfying meal ready in about 25 minutes.

Spicy Chopped Cheese Sandwich

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 0.25 cup chopped onions
  • 12 ounces lean ground beef
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha sauce
  • salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 3 slices American cheese
  • 2 hoagie buns, split and toasted
  • 1 cup shredded lettuce
  • 1 roma tomato, thinly sliced

Method

  1. Melt the butter in a small skillet. Cook the chopped onions for about 5 minutes until they become tender and start to caramelise. Take the skillet off the heat and set the onions aside.
  2. In a large bowl, mix the ground beef with the Sriracha sauce until it is fully combined. Shape this mixture into two thin patties and season them with salt and pepper.
  3. Place a large cast iron skillet on the heat. Cook the hamburger patties for 5 minutes until the bottom develops a crust. Turn them over and cook for another 3 minutes.
  4. Use a wide spatula to break the patties into large pieces. Scatter the cooked onions among the beef pieces. Arrange the cheese slices on top and cook for 2 minutes until the cheese has melted.
  5. Evenly distribute the hamburger and cheese mixture between the toasted hoagie rolls. Finish each sandwich with a topping of shredded lettuce and thinly sliced tomato.
