Spicy Cheese Quick Bread
This savoury quick bread delivers a pleasant heat from cayenne pepper and the rich flavour of sharp Cheddar cheese. It's a straightforward recipe that requires minimal mixing and bakes into a moist, tender loaf. With a blend of Italian seasoning, garlic, and onion powder, it's a deliciously spiced snack ideal for sharing. The loaf is ready to enjoy after a short cooling period.
Ingredients
- 1.75 cups all-purpose flour
- 2.5 teaspoons baking powder
- 0.75 teaspoon salt
- 0.5 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 0.5 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- 1.5 cups shredded Cheddar cheese
- 0.5 cup half-and-half cream
- 0.5 cup milk
- 0.33333334326744 cup vegetable oil
Method
- Set your oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Prepare a 9x5 inch loaf pan by greasing it lightly and then set it aside.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, baking powder, salt, cayenne pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, Italian seasoning, and shredded Cheddar cheese. Pour in the half-and-half cream, milk, and vegetable oil, whisking the mixture just until it is combined. Transfer this batter into your greased loaf pan.
- Place the pan in your preheated oven and bake for 35 to 40 minutes. The bread is done when a toothpick inserted into its centre comes out clean. Allow the loaf to cool in its pan for 10 minutes, then turn it out onto a wire rack to cool fully.
