Spicy Cheese Breadsticks
These homemade breadsticks offer a delightful crunch with a spicy kick. Using a sheet of puff pastry as the base, they are rolled with a blend of cheddar cheese, sesame seeds, poppy seeds, fennel, salt, and cayenne pepper. The dough is sliced, twisted into spirals, and baked until perfectly golden. Ready in about 25 minutes, they make a fantastic savoury treat for sharing.
Ingredients
- 1 sheet puff pastry (2 Come In A Box)
- 1/2 cup finely shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 tablespoon sesame seeds
- 1 tablespoon poppy seed
- 1 teaspoon fennel seed
- 1 teaspoon kosher salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper

Method
- Set your oven to 400 degrees and line a sheetpan with parchment or a silpat.
- Lightly flour a work surface and roll the puff pastry sheet until it is very thin.
- Combine all the seeds and spices together in a small bowl.
- Distribute this seed and spice mixture evenly over the rolled-out dough.
- Use a rolling pin to press the seeds firmly into the pastry.
- Scatter the finely shredded cheddar cheese across the dough surface.
- Roll over the dough again to embed the cheese into it.
- Cut the prepared dough into 8 strips of equal width.
- Take each strip and twist it from both ends to create a spiral breadstick shape.
- Arrange the twisted breadsticks on your prepared sheetpan.
- Bake them for 15 minutes or until they turn a golden colour.
- Allow to cool briefly before placing them in a tall glass and fanning them out for presentation.
