Spicy Black Bean Hummus
This recipe offers a Latin American variation on traditional hummus, using black beans alongside chickpeas for a unique flavour. It is a quick and adaptable homemade creation, perfect for use as a dip, a sandwich spread, or even as a stuffing. The blend includes tahini, lime juice, garlic and cumin, finished with fresh serrano peppers and cilantro. It can be stored in the refrigerator for up to a week.
Ingredients
- 1 (15 ounce) can black beans, drained
- 1 (15 ounce) can chickpeas, drained
- 2 tablespoons tahini
- 1/3 cup olive oil
- 2 limes, juice of
- 4 -5 garlic cloves
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 2 -4 serrano peppers, seeded and minced
- 1/3 cup cilantro, minced
- salt and pepper (to taste)
Method
- Place the black beans, chickpeas, tahini, olive oil, lime juice, garlic cloves and ground cumin into a food processor or blender and process until smooth.
- Move the pureed mixture to a serving bowl and gently mix in the minced serrano peppers, minced cilantro, and salt and pepper to your preference before serving.
