Spicy Beef Chili With Apples
This hearty chilli combines ground beef with sweet diced apples and a robust blend of spices including smoked paprika, cumin and cinnamon. It's simmered in a tomato and chicken broth base with a touch of cider vinegar, creating a uniquely savoury and slightly sweet dish. Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 1 tablespoon smoked paprika
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 2 teaspoons cumin
- 2 teaspoons dried oregano
- 2 teaspoons garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 lbs ground beef
- 2 apples, peeled, cored and diced
- 1 yellow onion, diced
- 6 ounces tomato paste
- 3 cups chicken broth
- 2 tablespoons cider vinegar
- salt and pepper, to taste
Method
- Warm the oil in a large saucepan. Mix in all the listed spices and cook while stirring for 30 seconds. Crumble in the ground beef and cook until it browns, which should take about 6 minutes.
- Introduce the diced apples and onion to the pan, cooking them for 5 minutes. Add the tomato paste, chicken broth and cider vinegar, stirring to combine. Allow the mixture to reach a simmer and cook without a lid for 10 minutes.
