Spicy BBQ Chicken Wings
These chicken wings are coated in a tangy, homemade barbecue sauce with a spicy kick, making them ideal for sharing. After marinating for several hours, they are baked until sticky and delicious. Serve them as a snack for a gathering or as a main dish with a side of rice. You can easily adjust the amount of chilli and cayenne to control the heat level to your preference.
Ingredients
- 300 g chicken wings
- 40 g reduced-sodium tomato paste
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/8 cup cider vinegar
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1 tablespoon canola oil
- 2 tablespoons honey
Method
- Combine the water and tomato paste in a pan and let it simmer for 2 minutes.
- Stir in the cider vinegar, chilli powder, minced garlic, cayenne pepper, cumin, canola oil and honey. Allow this mixture to simmer for 15 minutes.
- Arrange the chicken wings in a non-stick oven dish. Pour the prepared simmering sauce over them, cover the dish and place it in the refrigerator to marinate for at least 4 hours.
- Bake the marinated wings at 190°C (or 375°F) for 30 minutes.
