Spicy Baked Spaghetti
This hearty baked spaghetti combines a spicy sausage and herb mixture with classic pasta and a rich tomato sauce, all topped with melted mozzarella. It is a fusion of a family recipe and personal experimentation, designed for those who appreciate a good kick of heat. The dish yields enough for a gathering, making it ideal for sharing with fellow enthusiasts of flavourful, spicy food.
Ingredients
- 1 lb ground sausage (spicy or hot)
- 1 lb spaghetti noodles
- 1 tablespoon rosemary
- 1 tablespoon basil
- 1/2 tablespoon cayenne pepper (optional)
- 1 tablespoon sage
- 2 teaspoons oregano
- 1 bell pepper (chopped large)
- 1 large onion (chopped large)
- 1 (16 ounce) can preferred spaghetti sauce (watch for my sauce recipe later)
- 2 (8 ounce) bags of shredded mozzarella cheese
Method
- Brown the sausage with the herbs, bell pepper, and onion in a large frying pan.
- Place the spaghetti noodles into a pot of water and bring to a slow boil for 30 minutes.
- Continue cooking the meat mixture to render out the grease, but do not drain it away.
- Pour the spaghetti sauce into the pan with the meat and allow it to simmer for 10 minutes.
- Drain the cooked noodles thoroughly and combine them well with the meat sauce.
- Transfer the entire mixture into a casserole dish.
- Turn on your oven and set it to 350 degrees to preheat.
- Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of the casserole.
- Bake the dish for 25 minutes or until the cheese topping turns a golden brown colour.
- Take the baked spaghetti out of the oven and serve it.
- Enjoy your meal.
