Spicy Baked Beans

Ingredients

  • 4 slices bacon, or more to taste, cut into bite-size pieces
  • 1 small onion, chopped
  • 2 (28 ounce) cans baked beans
  • 0.5 cup ketchup
  • 0.5 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tablespoons prepared yellow mustard
  • 2 tablespoons minced jalapeno pepper
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon mustard powder

Method

  1. Set your oven to heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. In a large skillet, cook the bacon pieces, stirring, for 2 to 3 minutes until fat begins to release. Add the chopped onion and continue cooking for 7 to 10 minutes until the bacon is crisp and the onion is soft.
  3. In a large bowl, mix together the baked beans, ketchup, brown sugar, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, minced jalapeño, chili powder, and mustard powder. Stir the cooked bacon and onion mixture into the beans. Transfer everything to a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  4. Place the dish in the preheated oven and bake for 45 to 55 minutes, until the sauce has thickened nicely.
