Spicy Asian Tuna Melt
This recipe elevates the classic tuna melt with a spicy Asian twist. A zesty mixture of tuna, sriracha, green onions and sesame oil is piled onto toasted English muffins, topped with tomato and cheese, then melted under a lid. It creates a flavourful and satisfying meal in just 15 minutes, ideal for a quick lunch or light dinner.
Ingredients
- 3 green onions (chopped fine)
- 6 ounces tuna (drained, white chunk tuna is preferred)
- 1 tablespoon sriracha hot chili sauce (more if you really like it hot)
- 1 1/2 tablespoons mayonnaise
- 1/2 teaspoon pepper (freshly ground)
- 1/4 teaspoon sesame oil
- 1 medium tomatoes (sliced)
- 2 English muffins (lightly toasted, Bays brand preferred)
- 1 cup cheddar cheese (a mild cheese works best here) or 1 cup monterey jack cheese (a mild cheese works best here)
Method
- In a small bowl, mix together the drained tuna, finely chopped green onions, sriracha, mayonnaise, freshly ground pepper and sesame oil until well combined.
- Set a medium or large skillet over low heat. Arrange the toasted English muffin halves inside up in the pan. Divide the tuna mixture evenly among them, top each with a tomato slice and sprinkle the cheese over the top.
- Cover the skillet and cook until the cheese has fully melted, which should take 5-10 minutes.
- Serve immediately, perhaps with a side of French fries or a fresh salad for a complete meal.
