Spicy Asian Orange Sauce - HCG Phase 2
This piquant sauce is designed for the HCG diet protocol, where it counts as a single fruit serving. It combines whole orange and lemon with aromatic spices to create a versatile condiment. You can use it as a glaze for permitted proteins or as a tangy dipping sauce. The recipe yields two servings and takes roughly 35 minutes to prepare from start to finish.
Ingredients
- 1/2 orange, with rind
- 1/2 lemon, with rind
- 1/2 cup water
- 1 tablespoon green onion, finely chopped
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 1/4 teaspoon ginger powder
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 pinch orange zest
- 1 pinch lemon zest
- 1 pinch cayenne
- 4 drops stevia
Method
- Place the orange and lemon into a small saucepan with the water.
- Bring the contents to a boil, then lower the heat to maintain a simmer, topping up with water if necessary.
- Allow it to simmer until the fruit pulp separates from the rinds. Remove the pulp and discard the remaining rinds.
- Keep stirring the mixture while it reduces by half, until it reaches your preferred thickness.
- Stir in the chopped green onion, stevia, and all the powdered spices and zests.
- Serve the finished sauce alongside your chosen protein.
