Spicing up Boxed Stuffing
This recipe transforms a simple packet of stuffing mix into a more substantial side. Crispy bacon is cooked in its own fat before being combined with sliced scallions and carrots. The vegetable mixture is then stirred into the dry stuffing along with water to moisten it, creating a savoury and textured dish that is ready very quickly.
Ingredients
- 1 cup Stove Top stuffing mix
- 5 slices bacon, diced
- 2 scallions, thinly sliced
- 2 carrots, thinly sliced
- 1/4-1/2 cup water
Method
- Place the diced bacon into a medium saucepan and cook it until it becomes crisp. Keep the rendered fat in the pan.
- Put the thinly sliced scallions and carrots into the pan with the bacon and fat. Cook them together, stirring frequently, for about 3-5 minutes until the vegetables have softened.
- Take the saucepan off the heat source. Pour in the dry stuffing mix and stir everything thoroughly to combine.
- Add 1/4 cup of water to the pan and mix it in well. Check the consistency and add more water if the stuffing seems too dry, mixing until it reaches your preferred level of moisture.
