This recipe creates a beloved Christmas confection of walnuts coated in a spiced sugar syrup. Ingredients
- 1 cup sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/3 cup evaporated milk
- 2 cups walnut halves
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Method
- Place the sugar, cinnamon, and evaporated milk into a medium saucepan and combine them.
- Stir the contents constantly as you bring them to a boil.
- Continue cooking until the mixture reaches the soft stage, registering 235°-240° on a candy thermometer.
- You can test for the soft stage by dropping a small amount into cold water. it should form a soft, flexible ball.
- Mix in the walnut halves and the vanilla.
- Keep stirring the mixture until it becomes too stiff to stir any further.
- Transfer the contents onto wax paper and allow them to cool completely.
