Spiced Strawberries and Cream

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 inches cinnamon sticks
  • 3 whole cloves
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cornstarch
  • 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 3 cups fresh strawberries, washed,hulled and halved
  • 2 cups Cool Whip

Method

  1. Place the water, cinnamon sticks, cloves, sugar, cornstarch, and lemon juice into a 1 quart saucepan.
  2. Heat the contents of the pan, stirring now and then, until it reaches a boil.
  3. Let the mixture boil for one minute.
  4. Take out the cinnamon stick and cloves from the pan.
  5. Transfer the prepared strawberries to a medium bowl and pour the warm spiced syrup over them.
  6. Cover the bowl and place it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
  7. Use the Cool Whip to line the base and sides of four separate dessert dishes.
  8. Spoon the chilled strawberries and their syrup into the centre of each prepared dish.
