Spiced Strawberries and Cream
This dessert features fresh strawberries steeped in a fragrant syrup infused with cinnamon and cloves. The berries are chilled before being nestled into individual servings of whipped topping. It's a quick and elegant treat that requires minimal preparation. The recipe yields four portions and takes about 50 minutes from start to finish, including chilling time.
Ingredients
- 1/4 cup water
- 2 inches cinnamon sticks
- 3 whole cloves
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 teaspoon cornstarch
- 1/2 teaspoon lemon juice
- 3 cups fresh strawberries, washed,hulled and halved
- 2 cups Cool Whip
Method
- Place the water, cinnamon sticks, cloves, sugar, cornstarch, and lemon juice into a 1 quart saucepan.
- Heat the contents of the pan, stirring now and then, until it reaches a boil.
- Let the mixture boil for one minute.
- Take out the cinnamon stick and cloves from the pan.
- Transfer the prepared strawberries to a medium bowl and pour the warm spiced syrup over them.
- Cover the bowl and place it in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Use the Cool Whip to line the base and sides of four separate dessert dishes.
- Spoon the chilled strawberries and their syrup into the centre of each prepared dish.
