Sledzie w Jogurcie (Herring in Yogurt Dressing)
This traditional Eastern European starter features pickled herring fillets combined with a tangy, creamy dressing made from yogurt, mustard, and aromatic seasonings. Diced pickled cucumber and chopped onion add texture and bite. The dish requires chilling for the flavours to meld beautifully, resulting in a cool and refreshing appetiser ideal for a summer party or festive gathering. It's a simple yet impressive recipe that can be prepared well in advance.
Ingredients
- 8 pickled herring fillets
- 1.25 cups plain low-fat yogurt
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 pickled cucumber, diced
- 1 tablespoon prepared yellow mustard
- ground black pepper to taste
- 1 pinch white sugar, or to taste
