Shrimp Teriyaki
This Japanese teriyaki shrimp recipe is a tribute to a cherished family memory. It features raw shrimp coated in a simple, quickly simmered sauce made from soy sauce, sugar, garlic, and ginger. Ingredients
- 1/2 cup soy sauce
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 tablespoon oil
- 1 1/2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 2 garlic cloves, crushed
- 1 teaspoon minced fresh ginger
- 2 tablespoons water
- 2 lbs medium size raw shrimp (peeled and deveined)
Method
- Combine the soy sauce, sugar, oil, cornstarch, garlic, ginger, and water in a small pan.
- Simmer the mixture while stirring continuously until it thickens, which should take about 1 minute, then allow it to cool.
- Toss the peeled and deveined shrimp in the sauce to coat them, then drain any extra sauce away.
- Arrange the shrimp on a broiler pan rack and broil them for 3-4 minutes on each side until they are fully cooked.
