This Italian inspired casserole merges the classic tastes of pizza with the comfort of pasta. It is a substantial meat dish that layers seasoned ground beef and onion with spaghetti sauce, cooked spiral pasta, sliced pepperoni and plenty of mozzarella cheese. The assembled bake is then cooked in the oven until the cheese is perfectly melted and bubbly. It yields eight generous servings and requires just 55 minutes from start to finish.

Pizza Pasta Casserole

Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion, finely chopped
  • 1 (32 ounce) jar traditional spaghetti sauce
  • 8 ounces spiral shaped pasta, cooked and drained
  • 1 (8 ounce) package shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 4 ounces sliced pepperoni

Method

  1. Cook the ground beef with the finely chopped onion in a skillet, then drain any fat.
  2. Transfer the cooked beef and onion mixture into a greased 2-1/2 quart casserole dish.
  3. Pour in the jar of traditional spaghetti sauce and mix it through.
  4. Add the cooked and drained spiral pasta, one cup of the shredded mozzarella cheese and the sliced pepperoni, stirring to combine everything.
  5. Scatter the rest of the mozzarella cheese evenly over the top of the casserole.
  6. Cover the dish and bake for 30 minutes in an oven preheated to 350 degrees.
