Pepper Poppers
These tasty poppers are filled with a rich blend of cream cheese, cheddar, Monterey Jack and crispy bacon. The seasoned mixture is spooned into fresh jalapeno halves, coated in breadcrumbs and baked. They offer a customisable spice level based on baking time. Ideal for sharing, they are best enjoyed with a cooling dip like sour cream or ranch dressing. The recipe yields enough for a gathering.
Ingredients
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 4 ounces shredded sharp cheddar cheese
- 4 ounces monterey jack cheese
- 6 bacon, strips cooked and crumbled
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon chili powder
- 1 lb fresh jalapeno, halved lengthwise and seeded
- 1/2 cup dry breadcrumbs
- sour cream, onion dip or ranch salad dressing, to taste
Method
- Mix the softened cream cheese, shredded cheddar, Monterey Jack, crumbled bacon, salt, garlic powder and chili powder together in a large bowl until well combined.
- Fill each prepared jalapeno half with approximately two tablespoons of the cheese mixture.
- Gently roll each filled pepper half in the dry breadcrumbs to coat.
- Arrange the coated poppers in a greased 13x9x2 inch baking dish.
- Bake the dish uncovered at 325 for 15 minutes for a spicy result, 25 minutes for medium heat or 35 minutes for a milder flavour.
- Present the baked pepper poppers with sour cream, onion dip or ranch dressing for serving.
