Old-Fashioned Giblet Stuffing
This traditional American stuffing uses turkey giblets to create a flavourful side dish. It combines cooked giblets, celery and onion with dry bread cubes, poultry seasoning and broth. The recipe yields enough to stuff an 18-pound bird and can be prepared in about 30 minutes total. It's a classic choice for a holiday dinner or any special occasion meal.
Ingredients
- 1 sack giblets from one turkey
- 0.5 cup butter
- 1 cup diced celery
- 0.5 cup chopped onion
- 1 teaspoon poultry seasoning
- salt and pepper to taste
- 8 cups dry bread cubes
- 1 cup chicken broth, or as needed
Method
- Cut the giblets into small pieces.
- In a medium skillet, melt the butter. Cook the giblets for 2 minutes. Mix in the celery and onion and cook, stirring, for about 5 minutes until tender. Take the skillet off the heat and blend in the poultry seasoning, salt, and pepper.
- Transfer the dry bread cubes to a large bowl. Combine with the giblet mixture, then pour in sufficient chicken broth to lightly dampen the bread. The stuffing can now be baked as you prefer.
