Marshmallow Popcorn Balls
Create a batch of nostalgic popcorn balls, a favourite snack and dessert. This American recipe combines freshly popped corn with a melted butter and marshmallow coating. After mixing, the treat is shaped by hand into eight individual portions. The entire process takes only 25 minutes from start to finish.
Ingredients
- cooking spray
- 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
- 0.5 cup unpopped popcorn
- 6 tablespoons butter
- 5 cups miniature marshmallows
Method
- Prepare a 9x13-inch baking dish by coating it with cooking spray and set it aside.
- Place 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil into a 4-quart saucepan and heat it. Add 0.5 cup of popcorn kernels to the hot oil, cover the pan, and cook until the popping stops, shaking the pot now and then. Transfer the popcorn into the greased dish.
- In a separate medium saucepan, melt 6 tablespoons of butter. Add 5 cups of miniature marshmallows and stir them in the hot butter until they are fully melted.
- Transfer the melted marshmallow mixture over the popcorn. Use a spoon to combine everything until the popcorn is completely coated.
- Let the mixture cool slightly so you can touch it. Spray your hands with cooking spray. Form the popcorn into 8 evenly sized balls with your hands.
